Career
White began in 2011 as a regular host of the online series “Gentleman’s Roar.” White began writing for The Daily Show in October 2012 after finishing second in the competition to win the job on the show. She won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 2015 for her work here. She also starred in the TV series Tosh.0 and Chelsea Lately. In 2016, White wrote the script for the HBO series Any Give Wednesday and was hired as a writer on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee the following year. She appeared on the cover of Gay Times in 2018. That year, she produced the HBO series “Camping”. In 2019, White joined other members of the Writers Guild of America in firing her manager as part of the union’s campaign against potential unionization and bundling. Free wrote and directed “Two Strangers,” which won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. In 2023, Free co-directed a documentary with HBO, BS High, about the Bishop Sycamore High School scandal.
