Tracy Callis Biography
Tracy Callis is a well-known boxing historian, author, and journalist from the United States. He is the founder and director of the historical boxing research website Cyber Boxing Zone (CBZ) as well as the International Boxing Research Organisation (IBRO). He is also a member of the World Boxing Historians Association (WBHA) and an elector to the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHoF).

Callis got a master’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech in 1963 and worked as a mathematician at NASA’s Langley Research Centre for three years before moving on to work as a computer systems engineer for IBM Corporation for five years. Callis became interested in boxing and began profiling many fighters, particularly those from before 1900. “When I was younger, my father was a big boxing fan,” adds Callis. “I became interested in fighting games because of his.” I recall hearing about the Joe Louis-Billy Conn fight in 1946, which was won by the Brown Bomber (Louis) through knockout in the eighth round.” Callis is now regarded as one of the foremost authorities on 19th-century fighters, especially those who fought bare-knuckled. Callis is a member of the International Boxing Research Organisation (IBRO) and has contributed historical data to a number of well-known boxing historians, journalists, and editors, including Herb Goldman of The Ring magazine, Mike DeLisa and Dan Cuoco of Cyber Boxing Zone, and Bert Johnson of The Ring magazine.
Callis has an excellent understanding of boxing history, having worked as a boxing historian for more than 45 years, researching boxing’s past and providing rare and updated information for numerous boxers. As an IBRO member, he discovered four more knockout wins for Archie Moore (bringing his KO record to 132), 13 more fights for Mickey Walker, and 23 knockout wins for Jimmy Wilde. Callis wrote “A Brief History of the Heavyweights” and co-wrote “Boxing in the Los Angeles Area: 1880-2005,” “Philadelphia’s Boxing Heritage: 1876-1976,” and “More Tales from Ringside.” He has also authored book reviews for many popular boxing novels, including “A Man Among Men,” “Bareknuckles, Blood, and Broken Bones,” and “Bareknuckles, Blood, and Broken Bones.
