Tommy Vietor is an American political pundit and podcast host. From 2011 to 2012, he served as the spokesperson for President Barack Obama and the United States National Security Council. He co-founded Crooked Media with Jon Favreau and Jon Lovett, both former Obama staffers, and co-hosts the programs Pod Save America and Pod Save the World.

Tommy Vietor Podcast
Vietor joined The Ringer’s political podcast Keepin’ it 1600 as a regular co-host in March 2016, with Favreau and fellow Obama administration alumni Dan Pfeiffer and Jon Lovett.
Shortly after the November 2016 election, Vietor, Lovett, and Favreau decided to pursue podcasting and activism full-time. They started their own firm, Crooked Media, and began a new podcast called Pod Save America. In an interview with Recode’s Kara Swisher.
Along with Ben Rhodes, who served as President Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting, Vietor hosts Pod Save the World, a podcast about global issues and policy decisions. The podcast premiered on January 10, 2017.
In the run-up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Vietor co-hosted the seven-part miniseries World Corrupt with Roger Bennett (well known for Men in Blazers). Vietor anchored the five-part miniseries Pod Save America: On the Ground in Iowa, which followed the Iowa caucuses. Pineapple Street Studios produced the miniseries.

In 2004, Vietor declined a presidential campaign offer from John Kerry in favor of supporting Illinois State Senator Barack Obama in his first statewide race. His first assignment for Obama involved driving the candidate’s press van around rural Illinois. During this time, Vietor worked alongside and learned from Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs.
Vietor began as deputy press secretary for the Barack Obama Illinois Senate Campaign in 2004, then moved on to become Senator Obama’s press secretary the following year. He served as Iowa Press Secretary for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2007 and 2008. Following Obama’s victory in the 2008 presidential election, Vietor served as Assistant White House Press Secretary from January 2009 to January 2011, and then as National Security Spokesman and Special Assistant to the President from January 2011 to March 2013.
Vietor left the White House in March 2013, along with Obama’s Director of Speechwriting, Jon Favreau, to pursue a career in private sector consulting and screenwriting. They co-founded the communications agency Fenway Strategies.
