Before moving in Savannah in 1992, she worked in Macon, Georgia, North Carolina, and Columbus, Georgia, all in radio and television. She began working for WSAV-TV in April of that year as a weekend news anchor, but within three years had advanced to the primary anchor position on the nightly news at 6 and 11. In 1996, she was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through Savannah. Tina’s family has an Olympic tradition, which this perpetuated. Her aunt, Wyomia Tyus, won three gold medals in 1964 and 1968. She is well known to viewers as a supporter of breast cancer survivors. Her popular Buddy Check 3 advises women and men to perform monthly breast self-examinations. She shared her experience with miscarriage in the 2016 book Shift Happens: Inspirational Stories on Finding Happiness, Achieving Success, and Overcoming Obstacles.
