He was reared in Trenton, Michigan, and graduated from Trenton High School in 1976. He briefly attended the University of Michigan before dropping out without a degree in 1979 to form Boris Savage and the Primates, a fringe band in the Detroit Punk scene.

After three years of traveling, he settled in Chicago and became a regular at the Zanies chain of comedy clubs.
Slagle’s comedic style is observational and often ironic. Slagle made his debut on the national Showtime Comedy Club Network in 1989 and on MTV’s half-hour show in 1991. In 1996, he appeared on stage at a small Chicago theater in “The Slug Norton Report” with comedian Tom Norton. In 2000, he also produced and starred in the Minneapolis TV show The Mudslingers Ball, starring Lewis Black, Will Durst, Jeffrey Jena (Jeffrey Jena) and host Mike Lukas.
