Daly’s agent was infatuated with Nastassja Kinski from the film Tess and told her that she should change her name to “Tess”. Daly later reflected on how “gullible and impressionable” she was. She has not changed her name legally because she believes it would be disrespectful to her parents.

Six weeks after turning 18, she landed her first professional modeling gig in Tokyo. She spent five years in Paris after a series of work assignments in Asia and Europe while based in London. She then returned to London for six months before relocating to New York for five years of work.

Daly appeared in two Duran Duran videos, “Serious” and “Violence of Summer (Love’s Taking Over),” both from the album Liberty, in 1990. She also appeared naked in the video for The Beloved’s “Sweet Harmony” in 1993. She later became the face of Danone Shape yogurt as well as the lingerie company La Senza in the United Kingdom, where she appeared in their Steal the Show Christmas 2009 campaign.

A friend who planned red-carpet events suggested that Daly conduct interviews with the celebrities who attended while she was living in New York City’s Lower East Side. Daly’s first interview was with Quentin Crisp, author of The Naked Civil Servant, who lived in New York and became a close friend until his death. Daly bought a video camera. She sent a showreel to the producers of Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast in 2000, following a few red carpet interviews, and they immediately hired her to host the Find Me a Model competition. She has since presented shows such as Singled Out, Get Your Kit Off, Smash Hits TV, SMTV Live, Back to Reality, and the first season of Make Me a Supermodel with Dave Berry.

Daly became Ulrika Jonsson’s replacement as the host of the ITV makeover show Home On Their Own in 2003. On this show, children chose what to do with their homes over the course of a weekend while their parents went on vacation. An Austin Powers room, individual doorbells for the children, and a cinema living room were among the home improvements.

She started the show with Bruce Forsyth as co-host before he left in 2013; She has been co-hosting with Claudia Winkleman since 2014.
