Terri Irwin Family – Education

Clarence and Judy Raines, environmentalists, raised her as the youngest of three daughters. She and her friends were “free-range kids” as children. Her family ran a long-distance trucking company, and her father would bring injured animals home from the highways on which his trucks traveled. She founded Cougar Country in 1986 to rehabilitate and release predator mammals such as foxes, raccoons, bears, bobcats, and cougars. She was soon handling 300 animals per year.

Steve Irwin Husband – Children

Terri first met Steve Irwin in 1991 in Australia. In 1992, the couple married in her home state of Oregon before returning to Australia. The Irwins had two children: Bindi Irwin, born on July 24, 1998, and Robert Irwin, born on December 1, 2003. On September 4, 2006, Steve Irwin died while filming an underwater documentary at Batt Reef near Port Douglas in Queensland.

Terri Irwin, his wife, announced that the Australian memorial service would be open to the public and that those interested in attending should donate to Irwin’s “Wildlife Warriors” fund. The service was held at the zoo’s “Crocoseum,” a 5,500-seat open-air amphitheater built by Steve. Terri was too upset to speak, but her daughter Bindi spoke about her father’s love and received a standing ovation.

Terri Irwin House

Terri and Steve lived in Beerwah, about 75 kilometers north of Brisbane. Australia Zoo was located on the same property. Steve Irwin Way is the town’s main access to the house. Terri and her children are currently residing in the house. Chandler Powell, Bindi’s boyfriend, also lives with them. The close-knit foursome also works together at the popular Sunshine Coast attraction.

Terri Irwin Career

Terri began working as a veterinary technician in an emergency veterinary hospital in 1989 to expand her knowledge of animal care and support. She was still assisting her father with the family business, rehabilitating animals through Cougar Country, and working at the vet hospital. She also had 15 cats, several birds, and a dog of her own.

Terri went on a tour of Australia in 1991, and while visiting wildlife rehabilitation facilities, she met Steve Irwin, whose father had founded the Australia Zoo (as Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park).

“It was love at first sight,” Steve would later say. A “whirlwind romance” ensued: they were engaged after only four months and married on June 4, 1992, in Eugene, Oregon. On their honeymoon, they shot their first television documentary. The footage, shot by John Stainton, became the first episode of The Crocodile Hunter, which went on to become a hit in the United States.

Terri left her Cougar Country project in the United States shortly after their wedding and moved to Australia. She believes she was able to do far more for wildlife conservation as a partner in their wildlife enterprises and television shows.

In addition to their two popular television shows on the Animal Planet network in the United States, the Irwins released a feature film, The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, in 2002. In 2018, the television series Crikey! It’s the Irwins premiered, focusing on Terri and her children’s lives at Australia Zoo.
