Miller Childhood, Family – Education
Miller, the oldest of six children, was born and reared in Miami, Florida. Growing up, she and her siblings were not allowed to watch television because of their parents’ religious convictions. Miller started participating in theater plays while still in high school. She decided to specialize in marketing while attending Alabama State University instead of pursuing a career as an actress.
Miller discovered that she was acting all the time, therefore she continued acting at Alabama State after graduating. She graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She completed her training at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Royal National Theatre in London.

Miller appeared as Elena Tyler in the American drama television series Felicity. The show centers on Felicity, a recent high school graduate who, rather of enrolling at Stanford University, chooses to move to New York to live with her crush, Ben Covington. Felicity finds that she came to understand who she really is, in spite of her parents’ worries. After moving into her dorm, she befriends Noel Crane, with whom she eventually falls in love.
The primary dramatic issues in the series are centered around the love triangle that exists between Felicity, Ben, and Noel. Felicity is friends with a number of people, including Sean Blumberg, Javier Clemente Quintata, Julie Emrick, Meghan Rotundi, and Elena Tyler. Felicity is shown carrying a tape recorder, remembering things, and listening to a cassette that her old friend Sally Reardon sent her in the first scene of the show.

Following her roles in the HBO comedy Arli$$ (1996) and the CBS drama Michael Hayes (1997), Miller rose to fame as a cast member of the critically acclaimed WB series Felicity (1998–2002), where she played the astute and fashionable premedical student Elena Tyler. Miller received a 2002 NAACP Image Award nomination for her work on the show in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. She was listed as one of the Sexiest Faces on TV Guide. Miller also danced in the 1999 music video for “Got Your Money” by Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
Miller starred opposite Vanessa Estelle Williams in the major role in the BET film Playing with Fire. She made an appearance in the independent film The Other Brother (2002) with Mekhi Phifer. In the 2001 VH1 movie Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story, she played Stephanie, the wife of MC Hammer. Miller starred in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion (2006) and Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood as Donna.
In 2002, she appeared on The Shield as Claudette Wyms’s (CCH Pounder) daughter. Her performance in the science fiction thriller Phantom Force garnered her a nomination for the 2005 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series, or Dramatic Special. Miller made cameo appearances on the criminal dramas The District (2003) and The Division (2004). Her most recent television acting performance was in the sitcom Half & Half (2005).
Miller primarily acted in independent films after her Madea’s Family Reunion appearance, such as Hurricane in the Rose Garden, Guardian of Eden, Hollywood Chaos, and Diva Diaries. Miller produced the 2008 film After School as well as the Ghanaian film Police Officer 3. In April 2006, she produced Love & Other 4 Letter Words, her third film. In 2017, Miller made her feature film directing debut with Diva Diaries, a role she also played as co-star and producer. In 2017, the movie made its premiere at the Pan African Film Festival.
