Perry grew up in Finchfield and attended the Smestow School there. She worked as a lighting technician at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre during her school days. She later graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in business studies and finance. Perry worked as a model in Japan for a year after graduating before returning to the United Kingdom. Before joining Sky Sports as a sports reporter in 1997, she worked as an advertising model. She began covering motorcycle racing for BBC News the same year. She later hosted other well-known sporting events, such as Wimbledon, the Boat Race, the London Marathon, the Great North Run, and Royal Ascot.
Perry appeared as the skyrunner on the game show ‘Treasure Hunt’ in the 2002-03 season. She also worked as a BBC presenter during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
