Susan Egan is an American actress, singer, and dancer best known for her performances on Broadway. She is best known for originating the role of Belle in the Broadway musical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (1994), for which she received a Tony Award nomination, as well as providing the voices of Megara “Meg” in Hercules (1997), Madame Gina in Porco Rosso (1992), Rose Quartz in Steven Universe (2013), Angel singing voice in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure (2001), and Lin in Spirited Away.

What does Susan do for a living?

Egan spent much of her childhood dancing, focusing on tennis, and training as a figure skater from the ages of five to ten. She began her career in community theater and folk operettas while attending Los Alamitos High School, Orange County High School of the Arts, and UCLA. While attending UCLA, Egan was absent when Tommy Tune played Kim in a touring production of “Bye Bye Birdie”. After the tour, she toured the State Fair and was soon cast as Belle in the original Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award a Egan played Belle in the Broadway production of ” ” for a year, reprising the role with most of the original Broadway cast in the 1995 Los Angeles production. She also appeared in “State Fair”, “Cabaret”, “The Triumph of Love”, and “Today’s Millie”. Egan has performed one-man cabaret concerts at venues across the United States, including the Orange County Performing Arts Center  and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Egan has composed over 60 symphonies and has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl five times, including June 6, 2016, with Brad Kane for Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Live.”

Egan currently produces live productions with two companies she manages: Broadway Princess Party, LLC and 10th & Main Productions. Many of her shows have been produced in collaboration with Disney Concerts, including Disney Princess – The Conversation and Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Conversation. Egan is best known on television for her portrayal of Nikki Cox’s best friend Mary Campbell on “Nikki.” Egan has voiced two films by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away and Porco Rosso, in English. She is best known for her voice of Megara in the 1997 film Hercules, and reprised the role in the 1998 two-part television series of the same name, as well as Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III. Egan voiced Angel in Lady and the Tramp II: The Tramp Adventure, and Rose Quartz in the Cartoon Network animated series Steven Universe, among many other characters.
