Romo began his career in journalism while attending Texas A&M University, where he wrote for The Battalion, the student-run newspaper. He joined KTRK Channel 13 in Houston in 2016. In 2018, he was hired as a station anchor. Romo declined a primary anchor position at KTRK in 2021 in order to relocate to New York City with his fiancée. Soon after, he announced that he would begin working as a freelancer for NBC News. In the summer of 2022, NBC announced Romo would join the network full-time as the network’s newest correspondent based in New York City. Romo credits his childhood love of television and books with providing him with the tools he needed to overcome a difficult start in life.
Romo worked for the Disney-owned ABC station in Houston for five years before joining NBC. During that time, he spoke on ABC News national platforms about his reporting experiences, beginning with Hurricane Harvey and its deadly aftermath. In 2019, he appeared on Good Morning America with Michael Strahan and Sara Haines to raise funds for charities that fight poverty in the Houston area.Romo began writing for HuffPost alongside his work as a news anchor in 2019.
