Park A Serious Man
Park appeared as Clive’s father in the 2009 black comedy-drama film A Serious Man. Reb Groshkover is accused of being a dybbuk in a shtetl in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, which results in his execution. Larry Gopnik, a professor of physics, is up for vote on his tenure application in 1967. While their son Danny owes money to a scary Hebrew schoolmate for marijuana, his wife Judith is pursuing financial gain in order to wed Sy Ableman. The people intend to set Sonny’s grocery shop on fire in retaliation for Sal’s Pizzeria. Using a broom to protect his family and store, a terrified Sonny claims he experiences the same discrimination as black people. Though ML finds him annoying, Coconut Sid tells ML to leave him alone because everything is well. In an attempt to shake hands, Sonny extends his hand, but ML declines. But he leaves them on their own.
