Burton worked as a sports anchor and reporter for New England Sports Network (NESN) in 1993, where he hosted the Boston Red Sox’s pre and postgame shows. Burton joined WBZ-TV in 1994, where he is currently the sports director and lead anchor. He also hosts the weekly shows Sports Final, Patriots Game Day, All Access, and The Patriots 5th Quarter Show. Burton is also a frequent guest on WEEI’s The Big Show at various times of year. Burton, nicknamed “vest” for his smart attire, is occasionally chastised for arriving late on the radio and is also mocked for his appetite, having eaten nine enormous slices of pizza on the air during a 2009 broadcast.Burton became WBZ’s sports director when Bob Lobel was fired in April 2008.

Burton is a friend of controversial former baseball player Jose Canseco, and he has featured Canseco on an occasional weekend show he hosts on WEEI, most notably on October 14, 2007, during the New England Patriots’ game against the Dallas Cowboys, though the football game was never mentioned because the topic was baseball’s ongoing steroids controversy.
