Bishop attended the University of California, Riverside, and played baseball for the Highlanders from 1991 to 1992. Following college, he signed a free agency deal with the Atlanta Braves and appeared in 20 games for Atlanta’s Pioneer League affiliate in 1993. He played for the Northern League’s Sioux Falls Canaries and St. Paul Saints in 1994, as well as the High Desert Mavericks, the Baltimore Orioles’ advanced A ball affiliate in 1995. He starred as Patrick in the Bravo television series Imposters. He plays David Paulk on the TV sitcom Being Mary Jane. He has also appeared in the television programs Lost, Girlfriends, and The Game, as well as the indie film Americanese.
He starred in the film The Rundown alongside The Rock. Bishop also starred as David Justice in Moneyball, which was released on September 23, 2011. He appeared in the 2015 film With This Ring as ‘Nate Adamson’, starring Regina Hall, Jill Scott, and Eve (rapper). He featured in Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 Episode 16: Freedom Part 1. He costarred with Taye Diggs in the 2017 psychological thriller ‘Til Death Do Us Part as Michael Roland. On October 19, 2018, it was revealed that Bishop has been cast in a recurring role on Criminal Minds as Supervisory Special Agent Andrew Mendoza, Emily Prentiss’ love interest. In July 2020, Bishop starred in the Netflix psychological thriller Fatal Affair. In 2021, Bishop began playing the role of “Matthew Powell” on the Starz series Run the World.
