Stella Foster Career

Foster worked as an assistant to Irv Kupcinet and as a Chicago Sun-Times columnist and presenter over her 43-year career as a Chicago journalist. Foster’s career began when her sister informed her that Kupcinet, a Chicago Sun-Times journalist, was looking for a secretary. She started working for him on September 1, 1969, and she was his assistant for many years. Kupcinet taught her the fundamentals of good journalism, and she credits his ethics and charm with helping them gain “scoops” via a hot line where anybody could call in stories. Foster worked with Kupcinet as he aged, and she eventually acquired a byline under the Kupcinet column.

In the mid-1980s, she began her writing career with a regular column, “Starlights by Stella,” that appeared in Sister 2 Sister magazine; she later created her own column, “Stella’s Column.” Throughout her career, she had a regular FOX News feature called “Stella Sez.” Her boss did not appoint a replacement. On CNN, I defended the Obama children for allowing them to speak up for the first time. Foster published articles to the Chicago Sun-Times in the 1990s, including her 1992 opinion piece “Killing by Blacks Must Stop,” which was inspired by the shooting of her nephew, who survived the tragedy. She eventually expanded on this structure, naming them “Stellatorials.”
