Choi began her professional career as a general assignment reporter at WSET-TV, an ABC station in Lynchburg, Virginia. She then went on to work for WVTM-TV, an NBC affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama, where she rose through the ranks from general assignment reporter to weekend morning anchor. Choi was nominated for an Emmy Award for her special report “Dirty Downloading” while working at NBC-13 in Birmingham.
Choi then went to work for the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles, KCBS-TV. She began her career as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor before being elevated to weekday morning anchor. Choi came to Atlanta, Georgia in 2001 to work as a prime time anchor for CNN Headline News.Choi anchored multiple newscasts on CNN Headline News, CNN, and CNN International throughout her time there. She also covered breaking news topics such as Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, Hurricane Wilma’s aftermath, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Choi left CNN Headline News in 2006. She then went on a speaking tour with the University of Missouri School of Journalism in Shanghai, China. Choi joined KVBC-TV, an NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, in 2007. Until the end of 2009, she co-anchored First News 3 at Four and News 3 at Six with Kendall Tenney. Choi joined Jeff Gillan and Jim Snyder as co-anchors of First News 3 at Four and News 3 at Six in 2010. Through the Crime Tracker 3 franchise, she also reported on crime patterns in the Las Vegas Valley.
KVBC informed Choi on May 28, 2010 that her contract would not be renewed. With six months left on her contract, she was virtually barred from working at any other TV station in the Las Vegas market for the next 18 months. On July 8, 2011, Choi made her WSB-TV debut with a report on Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m. She will begin hosting WSB-TV Saturday and Sunday AM and reporting during the week on January 1, 2013.
