Simon Reeve Million Dollar Minute
In January 2014, Reeve supplanted Award Denyer as host of Million Dollar Minute. Reeve quit Weekend Sunrise in October 2014 after nine years to concentrate on Million Dollar Minute and It’s Academic. However, Simon returned to Weekend Sunrise in August 2015 following Million Dollar Minute’s cancellation. In March 2020, he made his last appearance on Weekend Sunrise.
Reeve was fired from Seven Network in June 2020 after working there for nearly two decades. He filed a lawsuit against Seven in September, claiming that the network did not compensate him for annual leave, redundancy pay, and other employee benefits. After that, Seven West Media’s tools were used to carry out a lengthy character assassination against Reeve.
The dispute over whether the network considered him an employee or a contractor lies at the heart of the lawsuit. Seven filed a counterclaim in October 2020, requesting reimbursement for payments made to Reeve’s business in the event of a victory. In March 2021, Reeve agreed to settle with Seven after months of mediation. Due to the settlement, Seven’s counterclaim was also dismissed. The Seven Network continues to air Reeve’s shows, including Million Dollar Minute, It’s Academic, and The Force: frequently airing Behind the Line.
Simon Reeve Career
In 1979, Reeve began his career as a sports producer and reporter at the Seven Network in Perth, Western Australia. He took a job with Vis News and moved to London in 1982. In 1984, Reeve went back to Australia and worked on the sports program What a Week and the Western Australian current affairs program State Affair. He was a member of the commentary team for TVW’s host broadcast of the 1987 America’s Cup defense and won a Penguin Award for a human interest report at that time. As a journalist for Beyond 2000, Reeve moved to the eastern states in 1987.
After leaving Beyond 2000, Reeve joined the sports program Seasons in 1993, Wildlife in 1994, and Good Medicine for three years as a reporter. Reeve and his family moved to Botswana in 1999. During his time there, he founded Kwando Productions and co-produced the international Animal Planet television series Mad Mike and Mark. After returning to Australia in 2001 and hosting the quiz show QuizMaster in 2002, Reeve went on to work for Sunrise and Seven News.
Reeve was a regular news and sports presenter on Sunrise, filling in for Mark Beretta and Natalie Barr. In 2005, while Barr was on maternity leave, Reeve took her place. In the week leading up to APEC 2007 in September 2007, Simon presented the news live from the APEC Newsroom as part of his duties on Sunrise. He also gave the very first Seven Early News bulletin on July 14, 2008, when Natalie Barr was hosting Sunrise. Along with Liz Chetkovich, Reeve has also been the gymnastics commentator for Seven’s coverage of the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games.
Reeve began hosting the children’s show It’s Academic in 2005. Reeve competed in the reality singing competition It Takes Two in 2006, and he began hosting the documentary series The Force: In the Shadows
