Born Sharon Vonne Stone, she is 66 years old as of 10 March 2024. She was born in 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, United States.

Stone Family – Education

On March 10, 1958, Sharon Vonne Stone was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Joseph William Stone II, a tool and die manufacturer and former factory worker, and Dorothy Marie (née Lawson), an accountant. Michael, Kelly, and Patrick Joseph (who passed away in 2023) are her three siblings. She comes from part of Ireland. She claimed that her Irish ancestors came to the United States during the Great Famine in a 2013 interview with Conan O’Brien. When Stone was five years old, she started the second grade because her parents thought she was academically gifted. Stone revealed that she and her sister had experienced sexual assault at the hands of their maternal grandpa when they were young in an interview with The New York Times in March 2021, in support of her memoir The Beauty of Living Twice. When she broke a horse at the age of 14, the horse bucked and charged toward a washing line, severely injuring her neck.

In 1975, she received her diploma from Saegertown High School located in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. At the age of 15, Stone was accepted on a creative writing scholarship to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. However, she left school to pursue a career as a fashion model and relocated to New York City. In 2016, Stone returned to Edinboro University to finish her degree, motivated by Hillary Clinton.

Stone Husband – Relationships

On the set of The Vegas Strip War, a television movie he produced and in which she featured, she first met television producer Michael Greenburg in 1984. In the same year, they got married. Greenburg worked with Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold as her line producer in 1986. After three years of separation, the couple’s divorce was finally formalized in 1990. Roy London was a teacher of Sharon Stone and comic Garry Shandling, with whom he briefly dated. That friendship lasted till Shandling passed away in 2016. William J. MacDonald, whom Stone met on Sliver in 1993, proposed to him. Although Stone returned the engagement ring, they parted ways in 1994.

Stone wed Phil Bronstein, the executive editor of The San Francisco Examiner and subsequently The San Francisco Chronicle, on February 14, 1998. In 2004, the divorce was finalized when a judge decided that Stone would have visiting rights and Roan would live largely with Bronstein.

Due to endometriosis and an inflammatory illness, Stone experienced multiple miscarriages and was unable to conceive biological children. In 2000, Roan Joseph Bronstein, their son, was adopted. Bronstein claimed irreconcilable differences in his 2003 divorce filing. Quinn Kelly Stone, Stone’s third son, was adopted in 2006; her second son, Laird Vonne, was adopted in 2005. Basic Instinct

Her breakthrough role came in another Verhoeven film, the erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992), where she played bisexual and alleged serial killer Catherine Tramell. The role was so nude that a number of actresses turned down at the time. Although reviews of Basic Instinct were mixed, Stone was praised for her “star-making performance”; Peter Travers of Rolling Stone wrote that “Verhoeven’s cinematic wet dream delivers the goods, especially when Sharon Stone struts on with enough come-on carnality to singe the screen,” and said of the actress’s portrayal, “Stone, a former model, is a knockout; she even got a rise out of Ah-nold in Verhoeven’s Total Recall.”

Though Basic Instinct establishes Stone as a bombshell for the 1990s, it also shows she can nail a laugh or shade an emotion with equal aplomb. However, being the bright spot in too many dull movies (He Said, She Said; Irreconcilable Differences) stalled her career. Finally, on March 31, 2006, Basic Instinct 2 was released after years of litigation. Stone told an interviewer, “We are in a time of odd repression and if a popcorn movie allows us to create a platform for discussion, wouldn’t that be great?”

Basic Instinct 2 finished with a total domestic gross of less than US$6 million, placing it tenth in gross receipts on its opening weekend with a measly US$3.2 million, while having an estimated budget of US$70 million.

Casino

Stone appeared as Ginger McKenna in the 1995 epic crime drama film Casino. The Chicago Outfit sends sports handicapper and Mafia associate Sam Rothstein to manage the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas in 1973. He doubles the casino’s earnings by taking additional unrecorded money from the count room and giving it to the bosses of the Midwest Mafia.

Sam’s childhood pal Nicky Santoro is banned from all Nevadan casinos once his name is entered into the Black Book. After falling in love, Sam marries Ginger McKenna, who has a daughter named Amy. Ginger’s relationship with her longtime boyfriend, hustler, and pimp Lester Diamond, is causing strain in their marriage. When slot manager Don Ward is fired by Sam in 1976 due to his incompetence, the Midwest bosses replace him with Artie Piscano, a Kansas City underboss who is also incompetent.

When Ginger abducts Amy in 1980, they begin an affair, which is what makes Sam and Nicky friends. After finding Piscano’s paperwork in 1982, the FBI shuts down the Tangiers. In 1983, Sam escapes a car bomb while Ginger perishes from a hot dosage. When the bosses give Frankie and his group the order to kill Nicky and Dominick in 1986, the old casinos are demolished and new ones are built.

Basic Instinct

She landed the role that catapulted her to stardom in another Verhoeven production, the erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992), as bisexual serial murderer Catherine Tramell. The part was turned down by a number of actresses at the time, primarily due to the compulsory nudity. Basic Instinct received mixed reviews, but Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers praised Sharon Stone for her “star-making performance,” saying that “Verhoeven’s cinematic wet dream delivers the goods, especially when Sharon Stone struts on with enough come-on carnality to singe the screen.” Observing that Stone was a knockout and even made Ah-nold laugh in Verhoeven’s Total Recall, Stone is a former model. However, her career was derailed by playing the protagonist in far too many uninteresting films (He Said, She Said; Irreconcilable Differences). Basic Instinct makes Stone a bombshell for the nineties, but it also demonstrates her ability to play with humor and emotion just as skillfully.

Playboy

She showed off the muscles she had built up for the movie in a nude photo shoot for Playboy’s July 1990 edition. Throughout her four-decade playing career, Stone has played sexy and sexual characters in movies like Basic Instinct, Sliver, and The Specialist, which highlight her beauty and seductive appeal. More than 300 celebrity and fashion magazines, including French Vogue and Playboy, have featured her on their covers and in their portraits. In addition, Stone penned the preface for George Hurrell’s Hollywood book and was a collector of Hurrell’s original prints.

Stone’s perceived attractiveness and sex appeal have been closely linked to both her public and professional profiles. She was listed as one of persons’s “50 most beautiful people in the world” in 1992, Empire’s “100 sexiest stars in film history” in 1995 and 1997, and Playboy’s “25 sexiest stars of the century” in 1999. In addition, multiple books have been written on her, and four television documentary specials have focused on her.

Stone said in 2014 that she was happy to be 56 years old and questioned the notion of being a sex symbol. She said that what really makes one sexy is being present, having fun, and like oneself enough to like the person with you when posing nude for Harper’s Bazaar in 2015.
