Throughout her career, Ito received numerous awards, including a Golden Mike Award from the Los Angeles Radio-TV News Directors Association for her work during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. She was also honored for feature reporting by the Sacramento chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She was a member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) Sacramento chapter. Ito began her television career as a producer and news reporter at KXTV News10 in Sacramento in 1985, after working at radio stations KJOY Stockton and KGNR in Sacramento. She left in 1990 to work as a reporter for Disney’s new television station KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, and returned in 1993 to KRBK-TV/KPWB-TV, now known as KMAX CW 31 in Sacramento.
She returned to KXTV in September 1996 as a weekend anchor and weekday reporter. Ito replaced weekday morning anchor Alicia Malaby in April 2002 and co-anchored News10 Good Morning with Dan Elliott from April 2002 to March 2007. KXTV launched an online project called Live_Online on news10.net in May 2007, with Ito interviewing newsmakers and interacting with viewers. Ito retired from broadcast news on March 25, 2012, and left the station. Ito began working in communications and public affairs at Sacramento State University’s College of Continuing Education in 2013.
