Lynch, a keen motor racing enthusiast, raced a Marcos, TVR, and then Mosler for the Eclipse Motorsport team in the British GT Championship from 2002 to 2006. He came within a few laps of winning the 2003 British GT Championship at the season’s final race at Brands Hatch when he collided with a spinning backmarker. In 2005, he raced with the ‘Christians in Motorsport’ squad in the British GT Championship’s Silverstone round. Lynch spoke to a crowd of race fans at the team marquee about how his faith influences his racing and life in general.
Lynch has also participated in drifting, competing in the British Drift Championship for performance parts maker and race squad squad Japspeed. In 2008, he was involved in an accident with teammate Danny Eyles while competing in the European Drift Championship round at Silverstone, and both Nissan Skyline cars were totaled off. Lynch and Team Japspeed unveiled a brand new VH45 V8-powered Nissan 370Z in the 2016 British Drift Championship season, finishing second on debut at Lydden Hill.

In 1993, music manager Louis Walsh, who had previously managed Johnny Logan, conducted tryouts in Dublin to find a new boyband to rival British group Take That. Lynch was among the candidates present and was eventually chosen. Before recording anything, he and five other successful auditionees made a notorious appearance on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show with Gay Byrne. Despite receiving criticism from the Irish press, the band went on to become one of Ireland’s most popular pop bands.
Lynch rapidly became known as the bad boy of the group due to his body piercings, tattoos, and violent outbursts, which contrasted with the band’s clean-cut image. In 1999, he went to the MTV Europe Music Grants with the band, breaking convention with his FUBU tracksuit while his bandmates wore facilitated suits, and declared to the stunned crowd, “In the press as of late, there’s been an entire heap of fucking shite about Boyzone in the year 2000 about separating, [but] we are not separating.”
Later that night, he engaged in a physical altercation with American rapper Puff Daddy. Two years later, at a live Childline concert, Lynch turned to the camera and yelled: “Tabloid newspapers, you can kiss my fucking arse!” Boyzone reunited in 2007, completed a 29-date reunion tour, and released their return song, Love You Anyway, on September 29, 2008. This was followed by a Greatest Hits album, Back Again… No Matter What, released on October 13, 2008.
