Shakina Nayfack is a transgender activist and actress from the United States who is most famous role was as a series regular on the Hulu television series Difficult People, where she played the “trans-truther” Lola in seasons two and three. She also served as a writing consultant for the show. She made history in 2020 when she was cast in the lead role of Connecting, a popular comedy show on a big network.

Jackson’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “A Strange Loop.”

She had prior appearances in the 2014 movie Death Drive as well as the television program The Detour. The Manhattan theater community held Nayfack in high respect for her one-woman piece Manifest Pussy. She was also the artistic director and founding member of the Musical Theatre Factory in New York. In protest of HB2, she led Manifest Pussy on a tour of North Carolina in 2016.
She was honored with the 2015 Lilly Award in the “working miracles” category, which honors women in theater and advocates for gender balance in theatrical productions. Nayfack has also been honored with the Beatrice Terry Fellowship Award from the Drama League (2017) and the TRU Humanitarian Award from Theatre Resources Unlimited (2016).
In Joey Soloway’s 2019 musical finale of the Amazon series Transparent, she portrays Ava. For the finale, Nayfack worked as a writer and producer as well. In the English dub of Tokyo Godfathers, she voices Hana. In 2020, she portrayed Ellis in NBC’s Connecting… She is now the first transgender person to play the lead in an American network sitcom.
