Cecily Strong played Koenig in a parody of her investigative podcast Serial called “Serial: The Christmas Surprise” on Saturday Night Live’s fortieth season. In a digital spoof for Funny or Die in 2014, Michaela Watkins played Koenig as she struggled to solve the murder of Hae Min Lee in time for Serial’s first season finale. In 2015, Koenig appeared as herself in the second season episode of BoJack Horseman, “Out to Sea,” speaking Diane Nguyen’s ringtone in a spoof of her Serial introduction. This occurred a season after podcaster Ira Glass played the same to-be-recurring role.
