Maas worked as a news anchor for KCHO Chico and KPAY radio in Redding during college. During her senior year of college, she moved to television and worked as a nighttime co-anchor at ABC affiliate KRCR-TV. In 1986, Maas joined NBC station KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, California, where she co-anchored the newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. Maas was also the station’s medical correspondent at the outset of the AIDS crisis, for which she received a Golden Mike Award. Maas moved to San Diego and CBS affiliate KFMB-TV in 1990, where she co-anchored News 8 at 4 p.m. with Mitch Duncan. She was also the station’s medical reporter and a national medical correspondent for CBS Newspath.
Maas was also a regular fill-in on Star 94.1’s Jeff and Jer Morning Show. In 1993, she appeared as Sally Winslow, a nurse, on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. When KFMB-TV lost connections with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in 2001, Maas was part of a huge exodus. She resigned following a failed contract renegotiation. Maas worked as a freelance journalist for Fox station XETV in San Diego in 2002. Maas joined KUSI-TV in 2004, first as a co-anchor on Good Morning San Diego before taking over as host of the lifestyle show Inside San Diego with Andrea Naversen in 2006.
She joined Allen Denton as evening co-anchor of The KUSI News between 6 and 10 p.m. in 2009. Since 1993, Maas has served as mistress of ceremonies at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. She also serves as Mistress of Ceremonies or moderator at events hosted by non-profit organizations. Maas joined the board of directors of the “Women’s Museum of California” in San Diego in 2020 and developed “Trailblazing Women,” a video series for the Women’s Museum of California. She was appointed board president in 2022. Maas moderated the Congressional Delegation discussion hosted by the Greater San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. She has also served as the host of The San Diego County District Attorney’s “The National Crime Vigil.” She has hosted or acted as mistress of ceremonies for fundraisers for the Salvation Army, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, The ARC-San Diego, and Rady Children’s Hospital.
