Samantha Futerman is an American actor, writer, director, and activist who was born in South Korea. Her most well-known performance was in the supporting part of the World War II drama Memoirs of a Geisha, which was filmed in Japan. She is also well-known for her independently produced documentary Twinsters, which tells the story of how she used Facebook to find her unidentified twin sister and follows them on their journey once the truth is revealed.

Futerman’s birth name was Ra-Hee Chung, and he was born in Busan, South Korea. She has two brothers, Matt and Andrew, and was later adopted by Jackie and Judd Futerman, American parents. Futerman, who grew up in Verona, New Jersey, completed his education at Verona High School in 2005. She then proceeded to the College of Fine Arts at Boston University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Futerman relocated to Los Angeles in 2011 in order to further her acting career. Futerman appeared in the 2012 YouTube video “High School Virgin” by KevJumba. On February 21, 2013, Futerman’s identical twin sister, Anaïs Bordier, who had been raised apart from her and was unaware of Futerman’s existence, reached out to him via Facebook after seeing this video. Futerman made the decision to collaborate with co-director Ryan Miyamoto to record the twins’ adventure right away. Futerman and Anaïs’ true identity as twins was established by a DNA test that the women underwent with Dr. Nancy Segal’s assistance. The two first crossed paths when Futerman chose to pay Anaïs a visit at her London school in May 2013.

Futerman Memoirs of a Geisha
Futerman appeared as Satsu Sakamoto in the 2005 American epic period drama film Memoirs of a Geisha. Chiyo Sakamoto and her sister Satsu are transferred to Gion, Kyoto, after their father sells them off in 1929. After being taken in by Kayoko Nitta, the owner of a nearby okiya, Chiyo encounters Hatsumomo and Pumpkin among other ladies. Hatsumomo views Chiyo as a possible competitor even though they are starting their schooling to become geisha in the future. After Chiyo finds out about Hatsumomo and her boyfriend, Koichi, behind closed doors, her mother punishes her.
Her parents pass away, and Chiyo is hurt when she falls. Chairman Ken Iwamura, who buys Chiyo a shaved ice dessert and gives her money to cheer her up, happens to walk into her one day. When she adopts the name Sayuri and turns into a maiko, Toshikazu Nobu, her business partner, notices her. Sayuri becomes more well-known and draws the interest of other individuals, including the Baron and Dr. Crab.
Sayuri’s career is interrupted during World War II, and she becomes employed by a kimono manufacturer. She rejoins Mameha and Pumpkin after the war when Nobu asks her to assist in making an impression on an American Colonel. Sayuri departs for the Amami Islands, where the Colonel turns her down. Sayuri arranges for Nobu to witness her having an intimate relationship with the Colonel after Nobu admits his wish to be her danna. Sayuri gives up on pursuing the Chairman, though, when Pumpkin brings the Chairman in its place.
Twinsters
She is also well-known for her independently produced documentary Twinsters, which tells the story of how she used Facebook to find her unidentified twin sister and follows them on their journey once the truth is revealed. The 2015 documentary film Twinsters. Futerman tells the audience at the beginning of the movie that she wants to convey the bizarre story that happened to her a few days ago. It gives a brief introduction of her family and tells how she saw her own face staring back at her when she accepted a stranger’s friend request on Facebook.
After accepting the friend request, Bordier sends her a message implying quite strongly that they might be twins and requesting further information about her birthplace. After exchanging texts, the two women decide to talk to one another via Skype. Following their initial video conversation, the two women are able to verify that they are, in fact, very similar to one another. They then proceed to determine whether or not they are sisters, and if they are twins.
Futerman meets with Dr. Nancy Segal, a twin expert, and the two ladies use Skype to collect DNA samples together. The ladies eventually meet when a trip to London is planned, with friends serving as intermediaries. When they talk to Dr. Segal via Skype later that night, he affirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are identical twins. The twins’ subsequent travel to Seoul for the International Korean Adoptee Associations Conference is documented in the film, along with Bordier’s visit to Futerman in California. They have been pursuing their birth mother, who says she never had the twins, all along. They write a note to the woman at the end to express their gratitude for giving them life.
