Sally Struthers is an American actress and activist who is known for her roles on Gilmore Girls and Gloria Stivic, on All in the Family, for which she received two Emmy Awards. In addition, she provided the voice of Rebecca Cunningham on the Disney animated series TaleSpin, Pebbles Flintstone on The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, and Charlene Sinclair on the ABC sitcom Dinosaurs.

The second of two daughters born to Margaret Caroline (née Jernes) and Robert Alden Struthers, a surgeon, Struthers was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 28, 1947. Sue is her elder sister. Her parents immigrated to Norway as children. When Struthers was about nine years old, her father left the family, and she was raised by her single mother in the northeast Portland area of Concordia. Throughout Struthers’ early years, her mother, who worked at Bonneville Power Administration to support herself and her two daughters, struggled with severe depression. Struthers was born as the second of two daughters born to Margaret Caroline (née Jernes) and surgeon Robert Alden Struthers. She has an older sister named Sue. Her maternal grandparents were Norwegian immigrants. Struthers’ father abandoned the family when she was about nine years old, and she was raised by her single mother in the Concordia district of northeast Portland. Throughout Struthers’ youth, her mother, who supported herself and her two daughters by working at Bonneville Power Administration, suffered from severe depression.

Betsy’s Kindergarten Adventures

She voiced as Mrs. O’Connor, kindergarten teacher in the animated television series Betsy’s Kindergarten Adventures. “The Farmyard Field Trip”: The kindergarten class of Mrs. O’Connor visits a farm and learns about several aspects of farming, including how cows are milked and what kinds of food the animals eat. However, Betsy is entangled in the mystery of the lost chicks. One by one, every time she returns to check on the adorable young chicks that have just hatched, another one goes missing.

“Betsy’s Green Thumb”: After visiting a nursery, the entire class starts cultivating their own plants. The only plant that isn’t going to grow is Betsy’s. After learning a variety of techniques for fostering plant growth, Betsy’s plant finally blossoms into something genuinely exceptional. She learns not to doubt herself and that what appears to be nothing extraordinary can evolve into something quite beautiful.

“Betsy Buys a Vowel”: Betsy is delighted to play Mrs. O’Connor’s spelling game, but she doesn’t want to be stuck with the terrible letter “U” because she believes no words contain that letter. After attempting to force the letter on her peers, she finds that a great number of words contain the letter “U”. Betsy learns not only how to spell, but also how to combine vowel and consonant sounds to appropriately pronounce various words.
