Rosey’s professional career began in 1955 when she was 23 years old. He became the University’s star footballer and also became a member of ‘Alpha Phi Alpha,’ the first Greek-lettered fraternity founded for African-American students. Rosey was drafted by the ‘New York Giants in 1955. (1995 NFL Draft). He remained with the ‘Giants’ until 1962. During his time with the ‘Giants,’ he put in notable performances and helped the team win the ‘NFL Championship’ in 1956 as well as the ‘Eastern Conference Championships in 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1962. He was chosen for the ‘Pro Bowl’ twice while still playing for the ‘New York Giants,’ first in 1956 and then again in 1961. In 1956, he was named an ‘All-Pro’ for his defensive play. He was given the title once more.
Rosey left football to become the bodyguard for then-US Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Rosey had a friend named Robert. Rosey was guarding the senator’s pregnant wife, Ethel Kennedy, on the night he was shot. Rosey was the one who took the gun from Robert’s assassin, Sirhan Sirhan after he was shot. Rosey and Bob Hope embarked on a tour called ‘Operation Holly’ in 1968. He then tried his hand at acting and made a name for himself in the film industry. As a TV actor, he appeared in numerous hit shows such as ‘Make Room for Daddy’ (1953 – 64), ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964 – 68), and ‘The Wild Wild West (1965 – 69).
Grier is one of the co-founders of ‘American Neighbor Enterprises (ANE). The organization’s goal is to help the underprivileged by providing them with shelter and training to help them get by in life. Grier became a Protestant minister in 1983. He then launched a new show called ‘Rosey Grier’s Are You Committed?’ This time around, the program was intended to help disadvantaged teenagers and young people. His vision was to instill educational and spiritual values in the youth. He has also served as chairman of ‘Impact Urban America,’ an ANE branch. He is also a board member of ‘Impact Urban America,’ an organization that uses real estate and construction to provide training, employment, and affordable housing to the underprivileged.
He is also a trustee of the ‘Milken Family Foundation,’ which supports medical research, social welfare, and societal advancement. Grier announced on January 5, 2017, that he will run for Governor of California from the Republican Party in the 2018 California Gubernatorial Election. He did, however, withdraw his candidacy in July 2017.
