Rosalind Brewer is an American businesswoman working as the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance. She is one of just two Black woman CEOs of Fortune 500 businesses, after her appointment at Walgreens in March 2021. Brewer is the first African-American woman to lead Walgreens Boots Alliance, Starbucks as group president and COO, and Sam’s Club as CEO. She has also worked with Walmart and Kimberly-Clark in several executive roles.

Brewer began her career as a research technician at Kimberly-Clark, a global paper-based product corporation, in 1984, after graduating from Spelman College. She worked there until 1988. She had a variety of leadership positions from 1988 to 1998, including market manager, director of Skincare, and vice president of nonwovens. Brewer was the head of manufacturing and operations and the worldwide president of Kimberly-Clark from 1998 until 2006. Brewer worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation for 22 years.

Brewer started working for Walmart in 2006. At Walmart stores, Brewer held the positions of vice president, senior vice president, executive vice president for southeastern operations, and executive vice president for the eastern business unit. Brewer began her career in Georgia as a regional vice president of operations. After serving as the regional vice president of operations in Georgia, she rose through the ranks to become the division president of Walmart’s southeast market, and then the president of Walmart East.

Brewer departed Walmart in 2012 to become the president and CEO of Sam’s Club, one of Walmart’s membership-only retail warehouse clubs. By tripling the number of organic products available at Sam’s Clubs, she focused on health and wellbeing. Brewer was the first African American to oversee a Walmart business as CEO of Sam’s Club. In 2017, she left her position at Sam’s Club. Brewer was nominated for the Starbucks board of directors on February 1, 2017. He was named COO and group president on September 6, 2017.
