Ron Insana Career
Insana began his career as a Financial News Network production assistant in 1984, ascending to the position of managing editor and chief of FNN’s Los Angeles bureau just before the Network was absorbed by CNBC. He was nominated for a Golden ACE Award while at FNN for his coverage of the 1987 stock market crisis. Insana joined CNBC after its merger with the FNN in 1991. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Insana was walking towards the World Trade Center with MSNBC producer John Zeta, unaware of the unfolding attack. They turned and ran as they saw one of the skyscrapers starting to fall. They were separated by a cloud of approaching dust. Insana sought safety in a parked vehicle. He explained what he had seen on NBC’s Today Show with Matt Lauer and Katie Couric while still coated in dust. As part of NBC’s coverage of 9/11, he was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy Award. Insana is now a frequent contributor to NBC’s The Today Show and NBC Nightly News, as well as other shows as market action dictates. He was a part of MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning until it was canceled, as well as the 15-minute Market Wrap on sister network MSNBC. Insana also writes a monthly column for USA Today called “Talking Business with Ron Insana” and used to host the nationally syndicated radio show The Ron Insana Show on Westwood One.
When his contract at CNBC expired on March 1, 2006, Insana quit his anchor duties to launch his own hedge fund, Insana Capital Partners. The fund had seven employees and was based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In the month of August 2008, the fund ceased operations because of investment losses and he joined SAC Capital Advisors in an unknown capacity. On February 27, 2009, Mr. Insana left SAC Capital.
