Bennett collaborated with WNYC in 2018 to create American Fiasco, a 10-part series that chronicled the rise and fall of US Soccer’s World Cup dreams in 1998, when the American team believed that after successfully hosting the 1994 tournament, nothing could stop them from winning the next one. The television series has been described as “part love letter to the American game, and part forensic accounting of the nation’s inability to fulfill its dreams in the global game.” In its initial week, it peaked at number one on iTunes.
