He formerly worked as the managing editor of the Arab News, an English-language daily newspaper published in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the Saudi Gazette, the Arab News’ competitor. Wagner was also the top editor of Dubai’s Construction Week magazine and the author of several historical books. Wagner, who grew up in Sierra Madre, California, began his media career as a copy boy for the now-defunct Monrovia Daily News-Post in 1974 and later served as the Hollywood Daily Independent’s sports editor. He worked as a police and court reporter for the Ontario, California Daily Report, and San Gabriel Valley Tribune in the 1980s and 1990s.

He also directed a documentary about Glasgow’s Necropolis cemetery. He is the executive producer of a film about the generational advancement of Saudi women in the workplace.

Wagner left The Record (Stockton, California) in 2004 to become national editor of the Saudi Gazette, an English-language daily newspaper based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
