River Buddy Butche is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, producer, and podcaster. Butcher is best known for his personal, observational comedy on vegetarianism, feminism, baseball, and queer identity. Butcher began his comedic career playing improv in Chicago at The Second City, and has since done stand-up in clubs.

Butcher grew up in the Kenmore section of Akron, Ohio, as an only child whose parents separated when he was one month old. He attended Our Lady of the Elms High School before graduating from Archbishop Hoban High School in 2001.

Butcher met fellow comedian Cameron Esposito at an open mic event hosted by Esposito. The two quickly began collaborating and dating. Butcher and Esposito married onstage at The Hideout in Chicago, Illinois, where Esposito grew up. Butcher and Esposito announced their split in August of 2018.
Career
Butcher began his comedy career performing improv at The Second City in Chicago, and he has since done stand-up at venues such as Zanies, the Jukebox, and Flappers, as well as Chicago Underground Comedy, The Hideout, The Lincoln Lodge, UCB, Cole’s and Meltdown. He made his late-night debut on Conan in June of 2016. Butcher co-starred with Cameron Esposito in BuzzFeed Motion Pictures’ “Ask a Lesbian” video series in the fall of 2014. Butcher and Esposito were also co-hosts of Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls Network web series “She Said”. Take My Wife, which is available on the comedic streaming service Seeso, is another collaboration between the two. Butcher co-hosted the stand-up comedy podcast Put Your Hands Together with Cameron Esposito.
Kill Rock Stars, an independent record company, released Butcher, his first comedy album, in August 2016. The show was held at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon. It debuted at #1 on iTunes. In 2016, he appeared in eight episodes of the first season of Adam Ruins Everything. He returned in 2017 for one more appearance. In 2018, he began hosting the baseball-focused podcast Three Swings. In 2021, he performed on Comedy Central’s Stand Up Presenting, A Different Kind of Dude. Butcher revealed in an interview that his main comedy influences are Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, Brett Butler, Elayne Boosler, Maria Bamford, and Paul F. Tompkins. Butcher provided the voice for Asher, a fictional nonbinary character, for the animated series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, released in 2020.
