Ricki Lake is a talk show host and actress from the United States most known for her work in Hairspray and for hosting her talk program, Ricki Lake, which ran from 1993 to 2004. In addition, she served as the host of The Ricki Lake Show, which was discontinued in 2013 but earned her a Daytime Emmy.
How old is Lake? Age
Born Ricki Pamela Lake, the actress is 55 years old as of 1968 in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, United States.
Lake Childhood, Family – Education
Lake was born into a secular Jewish household in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. Jill, a stay-at-home mom, and Barry Lake, a pharmacist, are her parents; however, until Sylvia Lake’s passing in 1978, Lake was mostly raised by her paternal grandmother. Lake spent a year as an Ithaca College student.
Did Lake get married?
It was Halloween 1993 when Lake first met cartoonist Rob Sussman in October. On March 26, 1994, the pair got married in Las Vegas. Their two kids are Milo Sebastian Sussman (born in 1997) and Owen Tyler Sussman (whose 2001 water delivery was featured in Lake’s film The Business of Being Born). August 2003 saw the pair apply for divorce, which was finally granted on February 25, 2004. In the middle of 2009, Lake started dating jewelry designer Christian Evans.
August 2011 saw them become engaged, and April 8, 2012 saw them tie the knot. Lake filed for divorce from Evans on October 29, 2014, citing “irreconcilable differences”. However, they declared in December 2014 that they had postponed their divorce, which was eventually finalized in 2015. She confirmed her engagement to Ross Burningham in February 2021. January 2022 marked their marriage.
Lake Talk shows
At the age of 24, Ricki Lake became the youngest host of a daytime talk program and was Lake’s first. The program featured questions and comments from a studio audience and focused on themes featuring special guests.
On September 13, 1993, the show had its syndicated premiere. Its original run of episodes concluded on May 25, 2004. In an interview with Rosie O’Donnell in 2000, Lake disclosed that she had committed to a four-year contract. Despite having numerous stations committed for the 2004–2005 season, Sony Pictures Television had Lake cancel the show in August 2004, citing, among other reasons, a desire to spend more time with her family.
After filming the eleventh season of the program in New York, she relocated from Los Angeles and went back to California. After hosting a resurrected version of her original talk show, which debuted in September 2012 and was canceled after one season, Lake made a comeback to the talk show circuit.
Lake Weight Loss
In interviews, Lake has talked of experiencing severe weight swings of up to 100 pounds and rigorous dieting that left her fainting on, like, the spot. She said that she would be on her feet when she would suddenly pass out and lose all memory.
Lake Hairspray
In the 1988 cult hit Hairspray directed by John Waters, Lake made her screen debut as Tracy Turnblad. In addition to recording “Mama I’m a Big Girl Now” for the soundtrack, she collaborated with actress Nikki Blonsky (who played Tracy Turnblad in the 2007 movie musical remake) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (who played Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical based on the original 1988 film) for the 2007 remake of the cult classic Hairspray.
In the 2007 movie Hairspray, Lake also made a brief appearance as a talent representative and performed the song “Mama I’m A Big Girl Now” alongside Nikki Blonsky and Marissa Jaret Winokur during the closing credits.
