Parody
The gay comedian and social media celebrity performs musical parodies for his solely Persian cat-watching audience, Mushi. He also uses a computer and a green screen to create videos mocking the divisive political climate of the current year.
His biggest hit, “Braggadocious,” a parody of the first presidential debate, has amassed over 30 million Facebook views to date. Not far behind is another widely shared parody, “Grab ‘Em by the P***y,” which is Rainbow’s response to Donald Trump’s apologies for making lewd statements about women. After releasing his most recent video on Tuesday, which was a parody of Melania Trump’s interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper this week, Rainbow is now hoping to get a ton of fresh content from Wednesday night’s last presidential debate.
Because of how well-liked his social media videos are, Rainbow claims to have received interest from multiple producers who want to create TV series based on his identity. Rainbow began his own Broadway blog at the age of 21, after which he worked as an office assistant for a few theatrical producers and waited tables. He began filming fictitious conversations with Broadway stars in 2010, and last year he expanded it into parodying political figures during the presidential primary.
Rainbow wasn’t ready for “Braggadocious'” kind of success, but he was happy when his political videos on Facebook earned between one and four million views. Rainbow instantly thought of Mary Poppins when Donald Trump used the phrase during their first debate with Hillary Clinton, and she spent the entire night recording a video.Rainbow only makes one parody per week, so instead of doing a musical analysis of the second presidential debate, he concentrated on Donald Trump’s apologies for his insensitive remarks about women that were captured on camera.
Music
Broadway Records has released multiple tracks by Rainbow. In August 2012, he released three singles: a version of “An Old-Fashioned Wedding,” a spoof of “Born This Way” dubbed “Born This Gay,” and an original jingle for Chick-fil-A composed while he worked there. On November 8, 2019, he released the holiday EP Hey Gurl, It’s Christmas!, which includes an original song titled “Trump’s Favorite Things” in a studio version.
On October 29, 2021, Rainbow released his debut studio album A Little Brains, A Little Talent, which coincided with the start of his Pink Glasses Tour. In addition to Rainbow’s two original songs, “Pink Glasses” and “Randy Rainbow For President!” which were both co-written, the album features multiple studio versions of his parodies from YouTube. Two additional tracks, “If Donald Got Fired” (with Patti LuPone) and “Mr. Biden (Bring My Vaccine),” a song that was cut from The Wizard of Oz, and a studio version of “The Jitterbug” are also included on the album.
