Hahn was employed as a disc jockey at CKRW when he was 15 years old. His first live play-by-play was for the Dandelion Heights Sourdough Rendezvous dog races. He has nearly 40 years of broadcasting expertise, the majority of which has been in hockey. On December 13th, 2022, he broadcast his 2,000th Sharks game, when the Sharks faced the Arizona Coyotes in San Jose. Hahn and ex-partner Drew Remenda have received five Northern California Emmy Awards in the “On Camera Sports” category, one in 1999 and four more in 2002, 2005, and 2008. Hahn worked as a PBP commentator in Konami’s NHL Blades of Steel ’99, as well as 2K Sports’ NHL 2K9, NHL 2K10,  and NHL 2K11.

His television work in the 1980s included Ivy League Game of the Week football broadcasts. In November 1991, Hahn and Rick Davis called the final of the first FIFA Women’s World Cup from Guangzhou, China for SportsChannel America. His other TV and radio appearances have included the San Diego Sockers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers. Hahn was the vice president of a non-profit organization called Pro Hockey San Jose shortly before the Sharks were created. The goal was to draw attention to the city’s recently approved arena and, perhaps, obtain an NHL franchise for San Jose (both the team and the building were successful, with the San Jose Arena opening in 1993 and the Sharks commencing play in 1994).
