Bearse was arrested in December 2018 for reportedly sending topless pictures to a former teenage student on Snapchat from August to October 2018. The male student’s parent found them on his phone, which was stored on the phone’s camera roll. At the time, the former beauty queen believed that she was trying to give the photo to her husband but mistakenly sent it to the student. She added that he kept calling for pictures, and Bearse did so because she was “afraid to not appease him.’

She was charged with four criminal counts of dissemination or show of obscenity to minors. The next year, Bearse pled guilty to one count of making sexually suggestive content involving minors in December 2019. She was subsequently charged with four counts of distributing obscene content to a minor. She was removed from her teaching job during the investigation. Bearse is no longer employed with the Kanawha County School System.CBS announced that, along with Bearse’s two years in jail, she was also sentenced to another ten years of supervised release. Bearse has been classified as a sex offender for life and has been subjected to lies detector checks and drug screening.
