Jones Apparel Group formed a joint venture with the Rachel Roy brand in June 2008. Jones, on the other hand, decided in 2013 to sell itself to another company and liquidate the Rachel Roy brand. They also intended to sell her trademarks to a different company. Roy retaliated by suing Jones Apparel. The judge agreed that she had complete creative control over her company and could choose the buyer. The suite was eventually settled and sold to Sycamore Partners.
