Black was CNN International’s Russia correspondent in Moscow before being assigned to London. He covered a number of high-profile stories in the region in this capacity, including Vladimir Putin’s landslide re-election as president and the controversial arrest and detention of protest punk band Pussy Riot.
Recently, Black has been a key figure in CNN’s coverage of the Ukrainian crisis, from his coverage of Kiev’s Maidan protests to Donetsk’s fighting between pro-Russian rebels and government forces. Black was also on the ground at the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and broadcasting live from the scene. Black was honored twice at the 2014 AIB awards for his reporting on this story and the shooting of an anti-government protester in Independence Square.
