Najarian was a linebacker for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in college. From 1983 to 1985, he was named to the All-Big Ten second team, and from 1983 to 1985, he received the Carl Eller award for outstanding defensive player three years in a row. He was also the team’s captain in 1985. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he went on to play professional football with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings. Pete was also a member of the Sacramento Surge, which won the World Bowl in 1992. Najarian began trading options in 1992, inspired by his brother, Jon Najarian, who worked for Mercury Trading at the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
