 Storyline

The movie is told in vignettes, with narration given by an adult Ralphie Parker reminiscing about a particular Christmas when he was nine years old. That Christmas, Ralphie just wanted one thing: a Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Ralphie’s wish is denied by his mother, his teacher Miss Shields, and even a Santa Claus from Higbee’s department store, who all threaten him, “You’ll shoot your eye out.”

When Ralphie wakes up on Christmas morning, he immediately begins unwrapping his gifts. He does receive some gifts that he loves, but he is saddened that he did not receive the one item that he desired most. When Father directs him to look at one last gift that he had concealed, it appears that all of the presents have been opened. The Red Ryder gun is seen when Ralphie opens it.

Ralphie takes his pistol outside and aims it at a goal affixed to a metal sign in the yard. The BB, on the other hand, ricochets and knocks his glasses off. He steps on them and drops them while looking for them, believing he has already shot his eye out. He tells his mother that his glasses were broken by a falling icicle, and she believes him. On Christmas Eve, Ralphie is lying in bed with his pistol by his side. This was the greatest gift Ralphie had ever got, according to the adult Ralphie.
