Paul Provenza is an American TV host, actor, radio panelist, stand-up comedian, filmmaker, and skeptic. He is an actor and producer best known for The Aristocrats (2005), Northern Exposure (1990), and Survival Quest (1988).

Provenza was born and raised in the Pelham Parkway neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City, and graduated from Bronx High School of Science in 1975. He earned his degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979.
Paul Career
In recent years, he has appeared on many podcasts and interviewed other comedians. He became a director in 2005, a writer in 2010, and a producer for comedy festivals and television in 2011. He began doing stand-up in high school and made his debut at the Improv Theatre in Manhattan at the age of 17. He continued acting while attending the University of Pennsylvania and spent a year at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. While at RADA, he joined the classical theater group and became one of the few Americans to play Romeo on the London stage. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, the same year he received his first degree in theater. At Penn, he created the Penn Punch Bowl and was a member of the Mask and Wig Club, to which he returned several times each year to perform at the Intercollegiate Comedy Festival.
Provenza made his debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. In a short television series, Patrick and Dr. Empty Nest. Provence. He stars opposite Teri Polo. Provenza also hosted the Comedy Central series Comics Only from 1991 to 1995. He received critical acclaim for his performance in the off-Broadway play Just Joke! He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor and won the World Academy Award for Best Performance in a Drama. He was Diana Ross’ stand-up comedy opening act for three years or more. The legendary Al Hirschfeld honored him by painting a mural of him. She was also a regular cast member on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me from 2006 to 2010. After a decade of working as a comedian and actor, Provenza found a new calling to act as an interviewer for others, which he successfully accomplished on his 2005 broadcast. The Aristocrats (with Penn Gillett) has reached its conclusion.
At the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Provenza presented an evening show called Talk of Fest at the Belly. The festival will take place every night at 11 p.m., and Provenza describes the setting as a “green room for the entire festival.” Guests include “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The show was revived by Provenza at the 2007 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, with appearances by Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard and members of the Kids in the Hall. In 2010, Showtime announced the show, and on June 12, 2010, The Green Room starring Paul Provenza featured many of the same holiday guest stars. In 2011, Provenza began working on a new show called List – Stand-Up Without Net. The show was originally created by Troy Conrad and improvised by stand-up comedians based on suggestions received. Following successful runs at comedy festivals around the world, including Just For Laughs, Melbourne Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, the program has been picked up for television by UK broadcaster Sky Atlantic. The series, starring Robin Williams, Drew Carey and Frank Skinner, is also broadcast on Australia’s ABC2 channel.
Provenza was the emcee at the 2012 Why Rally on the Mall in Washington, D.C., entertaining an audience of approximately 30,000 people. In May 2010, HarperCollins published Provenza’s Satiristas! He published his book titled, with photographs by Dan Dion. It has in-depth interviews with Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, George Carlin, Marc Maron, and more.
