Paul Magers Career
Magers began his broadcasting career at KSTP-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul, then moved to KATU in Portland in 1979, where he began working as an on-air reporter. He has received numerous industry awards, including several Emmys and a Golden Mike Award. In 1981, he moved to KGTV-TV in San Diego for two years as a reporter and anchor before returning to the Twin Cities and beginning his 20-year career with KARE-TV. Paul and co-anchor Diana Pierce of 10:00 p.m. joined the station in September 1983 and worked together on that newscast until September 2003. In 2004, Magers moved to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. In addition to anchoring the evening newscasts, he hosted a number of specials, moderated political debates, and took part in a variety of community events, including a telethon to raise funds for flood relief in Minnesota in 1997. In March 2017, Magers announced his retirement from television broadcasting, revealing his long battle with alcoholism.[
