Paul Gilmartin was born in South Holland, Illinois, and attended St. Joseph’s school in Homewood. He is an alumni of Indiana University at Bloomington. He studied theater and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an academic honor group. He also studied at Chicago’s famed Second City.
Career
In 1995, Gilmartin became the host of TBS’s cooking entertainment program Dinner and a Show, a position he held for more than 16 years from the show’s premiere until 2011. During his tenure at the helm, Gilmartin was known for his distinctive and self-centered sense of humour. Throughout its run, the show relied on Gilmartin’s ability to make clear, simple connections with female characters. “Good Dinner and a Movie” became an instant hit and helped boost TBS’ ratings. One reviewer called it “the first TV show to combine great cinematography, improvisational entertainment and cooking education.”
In 2011, Gilmartin started the weekly Mental Illness Happy Hour podcast. This long-distance interview-style program examines the life effects of mental health issues such as depression, addiction, fear, anxiety, oppression and sex. Gilmartin A.V.
