Paul Dempsey Something for Kate
Something for Kate was created in Melbourne, Australia, in mid-1994, six months after Dempsey graduated from Padua College, with school buddy Clint Hyndman on drums. They quickly found Julian Carroll to play bass guitar by placing advertisements in local record stores.
Originally known as Fish of the Day, the band was renamed after a performance at the Punter’s Club, with Dempsey’s Jack Russell dog, Kate, serving as the primary influence. They performed two gigs before releasing a demo tape in 1995. A&R agent Chris Dunn signed them to Sony subsidiary label Murmur Records in early 1996; all of the members were 19 years old at the time. Between 1996 and 2007, the band published five studio albums, four of which charted in the ARIA top ten. The band declared its breakup in 2007.
