Pat Kiernan is a Canadian-American television host who has been the NY1 morning news anchor since 1997. In New York City, he is well-known for his “In the Papers” segment, in which he recaps the colorful content in the city’s daily newspapers, complete with his deadpan humor.

While studying business at the University of Alberta, Kiernan began his career in the news industry in 1988 at CKRA-FM in Edmonton. At Edmonton’s CFRN News, he later switched from radio to television. He moved to CITV, another Edmonton television station, in 1993, where he produced the primetime newscast on weekdays. Three years later, Kiernan moved to New York City to work for Time Warner, where he quickly rose to become the morning anchor of NY1. On weekdays, Kiernan typically airs from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. On the morning of September 11, he was on the air, and he was there for nearly 15 hours that day.

In addition, Kiernan is a Canadian correspondent for Business News Network. Kiernan co-anchored the CNNfn program “The Money Gang” from 2000 to 2004. His co-has included Christine Romans and two individual Canadians, Amanda Lang and Ali Velshi. Pat’s Papers is a website that Kiernan created in 2008 to compile his favorite news stories from American newspapers.

Kiernan joined TrivWorks in January 2011 as a “Special Host,” available for specific corporate team-building events. In January 2014, Kiernan joined WABC (AM) Radio as the host of a 5 p.m. weeknight news/talk show that covered the day’s happenings in and around New York City, adding an afternoon job to his long-running morning routine. Beginning in 2015, he left WABC.

Kiernan joined Bloomberg television Canada in 2015 as the host of the station’s Thursday night Bloomberg North program. From a Canadian perspective, the half-hour report examines the week’s global business events. In films like The Interpreter (2005), Night at the Museum (2006), True North (film) (2006), The Son of No One (2011), Iron Man 3 (2013), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Kiernan has made cameo appearances either as himself or as a reporter.
