Grier Biography
Pam Grier is an American singer-actress who has been referred to as the first female action star in movie history. She rose to prominence in the 1970s action, blaxploitation, and women in jail films that she starred in for American International Pictures and New World Pictures. Among her achievements are nominations for the Saturn, Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Satellite Awards.

Grier Childhood, Family – Education
Grier is the daughter of Gwendolyn Sylvia (née Samuels), a homemaker and nurse, and Clarence Ransom Grier Jr., a mechanic and technical sergeant in the US Air Force. She is the sister of two brothers. Grier claimed to be of Chinese, Filipino, Black, Hispanic, and Cheyenne descent. She was baptized as a Methodist after having been raised as a Catholic.
Because of her father’s military job, the family traveled around a lot when she was growing up. They relocated to Swindon, UK’s South West, in 1956, where her father was employed at an air force installation. Grier’s family was one of the few Black families in the community, while experiencing racism and segregation in the US. They were prohibited from using particular restrooms, dining in specific restaurants, and riding buses.
The family left for the United States in 1958 and finally settled in Denver, Colorado.Grier grew up in part on the rural Wyoming sugar beet farm owned by her maternal grandparents, who had homesteaded there after escaping slavery by traveling west on the Underground Railroad. She competed in beauty pageants while attending Denver’s East High School in order to acquire money for her tuition at Metropolitan State College.

In 1973, Grier was promoting her movie Coffy when she met comedian Freddie Prinze. They started dating and spoke about getting married. She was hesitant to become pregnant because of Prinze’s past struggles with depression and drug abuse. They didn’t stop communicating after their split. One of Prinze’s final conversations before passing away in 1977 was with her. Grier, a former actress, got to know comic Richard Pryor by way of Prinze. Following their roles in Greased Lightning, they started dating.
Grier attempted to assist Pryor in quitting drug abuse and taught him to read. Pryor’s six-month recovery ended in a relapse. According to Grier’s memoir, her sexual encounter with Pryor resulted in the introduction of cocaine into her body. While Pryor was seeing Grier, he married Deborah McGuire. In the past, Grier had romantic relationships with basketball player Wilt Chamberlain, Soul Train DJ Don Cornelius, and boxing promoter Jimmie “Big Wheel” Wheeler.

She is incredibly devoted, enthusiastic, and helpful to her friends and family.Before joining Alcoholics Anonymous, Kit struggled with her alcohol addiction and had multiple relapses. She started a non-sexual romance with genderqueer Ivan Aycock after meeting him there. Kit was put on a better road by him, and he even helped her get her license back after it had been suspended because of her DUI. He was humiliated and felt uneasy about pursuing a romantic relationship with her after she unintentionally caught him changing and disclosing a binder, prosthetic penis, and Ivan’s longer hair. This led to the end of their love engagement.
