Nora Dunn is an American actress and comedian. She first became well-known as a cast member of the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. Dunn has recurrent appearances on Sisters (1993-1996) and The Nanny (1998-99), as well as a guest-starring role in a two-part episode of The X-Files in 1998.

Dunn joined SNL in 1985, with Lorne Michaels returning as executive producer. The 1985–86 season was a ratings disaster, and she was the only one of the five cast members not to be fired (the others were newcomer Jon Lovitz, A. Whitney Brown, Dennis Miller, and longtime comedian Al Franken).
Dunn’s roles included one half of the sitcom The Sweeney Sisters, opposite Jan Hooks, and from 1985 to 1986 (she became a popular comedian during the 1985–86 season), as talk show host Pat Stevens, a French woman transformed into Babette, and film buff Ashley Ashley’s “Movie Actors” sketches from the 1985–86 season. Her impressions include Ann Landers, Imelda Marcos, Liza Minnelli, Tyne Daly, Joan Baez, Martina Navratilova and Corky Roberts.
Dunn made headlines in 1990 when she and lead singer Sinéad O’Connor were attacked for what they deemed to be an inappropriate sense of humor by singer Andrew Dice Clay. Reflecting on the events leading up to SNL’s 40th anniversary, she explained: “Lorne said, ‘Andrew Dice Clay is a phenomenon worth investigating. ‘ Yes, he’s a phenomenon, but if you have to review him, it shouldn’t be this. The host, you should write an article. We’re not criticizing the hosts of Saturday Night Live, we’re supporting them. Write to them, let’s fix them, or you’re not going to find a host who’s going to fix them. … One thing: the oppression of women and the criticism of female oppression.
Dern reprised her role on The Sisters from 1993 to 1996 and The Nanny from 1998 to 1999, and guest-starred in two episodes of The X-Files in 1998. She played writer Tess Brown in the ninth season of “Trail,” the nemesis of protagonist Temperance Brennan. In 2015, she appeared in the fourth season of New Girl. In 2009, Dern played Frank Reynolds’ sister in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
Her film credits include “Working Girl” (1988), “I Got High School” (1989), “Miami Blues” (1990), “I Love Trouble” (1994), “Shake it Up”, and “The Rock”. (1994), The Last Supper (1995), Three Kingdoms (1999), What’s the worst that could happen? Dunn began appearing in a series of commercials for Clorox in 2014. He is also a storyteller at Under the Gun Theater in Chicago.
