His father, Robert, was a writer and acting coach in Hollywood. Noah’s on-screen career began quickly thanks to Robert’s relationships. By the age of three, he had begun to appear in commercial films.

He began appearing in commercials at the age of three and went on to star in various TV films and series, including Designated Hitter, an episode of Family Ties from season 4 episode 8. At the age of six, he played Boxey in Battlestar Galactica and was nominated for the first Young Artist Awards.He starred as Atreyu in the 1984 film The Neverending Story. He received his second Young Artist Award nomination and won Best Younger Actor at the 12th Saturn Awards. For the role, Hathaway performed his own stunts, resulting in a few near-injuries; German director Wolfgang Petersen stated:
In 1986, Hathaway played Harry Potter Jr. in Troll and Jamie in the television film Casebusters. Hathaway did not act again until 1994, when he appeared in his first adult film, To Die, to Sleep. After a second absence from acting, Hathaway returned in 2011 for the films Mondo Holocausto! [citation needed] as Ruggero Margheriti and Sushi Girl as Fish.
In 2016, Hathaway reprised his performance in The NeverEnding Story for a Spotify commercial commemorating the 1980s. He moved into dance education, teaching advanced jazz and street dance until an injury caused him to retire in 1989 at the age of eighteen. Hathaway trained in martial arts and later earned black belts in Tang Soo Do and Shotokan Karate.
Hathaway spent some of his time at the Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, California competing in supersport motorcycle racing, and designing and riding “chopper” motorcycles. He was on tour with WizardWorld Conventions and appeared at the Chicago and Philadelphia shows in 2011. He appeared at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Sydney, Australia in June 2012.
