Myron began competing in barbeque in 1996 in an event in Atlanta, Georgia. He took first place in entire hog and third place in pork shoulder. He started competing in BBQ to market his family’s BBQ sauce, which his parents, Gaye and Jack, had produced. Myron has won over 180 BBQ grand championships and over 1,700 BBQ prizes during his career. He has won the Memphis in May World Championship Grand Champion title five times: in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2016, and 2021. Myron has won the Big Pig Jig Grand Championship three times in a row, most recently in 2012. He has yet to win the Jack Daniel’s BBQ World Invitational, which he describes as the most prestigious competition on the barbecue circuit. He finished second in 2004, missing first place by 0.1 points, and has won the whole hog competition there three times. His accomplishments earned him the moniker “the winningest man in barbecue.”

Myron debuted as a contestant on TLC’s reality show BBQ Pitmasters in its first season. Originally, it was a show that followed several BBQ chefs to various BBQ tournaments. Series two saw a format shift to a competition game show, with Mixon serving as one of three judges alongside Art Smith and Warren Sapp. program three saw the program relocate to the Destination America cable TV channel and undergo a minor format modification. Mixon was the sole judge that remained on the show, along with Aaron Franklin and Tuffy Stone, two other BBQ chefs. Mixon was elected mayor of his hometown of Unadilla, Georgia, in January 2016 and was sworn in for a four-year term.
