He began his broadcasting career as a weekend anchor at KWHY-TV in Los Angeles, California, before moving on to become the morning co-host of KCOP-community TV’s “In Studio” for three seasons in Los Angeles. He’s also served as the L.A. bureau head for Philippine News and as an anchor and reporter for KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, California. Monty started as a general assignment reporter at KMPH in 1996. He moved to Fort Myers, Florida, to serve as a weekday anchor for the noon and early evening news at NBC affiliate WBBH. Monty moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to work as the nighttime anchor for Fox affiliate WXMI-TV.
In the year 2000, NBC hired Monty as a new morning program anchor for its Raleigh, North Carolina station. In addition to his duties as a morning program anchor/reporter, Monty was promoted to Executive Producer/Host of WNCN’s only locally-produced public affairs show, “At Issue.” He was also requested to design, produce, and present a new public affairs program to address the problems of North Carolina’s fast-rising Hispanic population. The premiere of “Viva Carolina” was met with acclaim from state Hispanic officials, the Hispanic community, and public audiences.
