Mike Pomeranz Biography

Mike Pomeranz is a studio host and announcer for the San Diego Padres on Bally Sports San Diego, as well as the Anaheim Ducks on Bally Sports SoCal and Bally Sports West. Pomeranz also hosts Inside San Diego Sports and the coaches’ shows for the SDSU Aztecs football and basketball teams on Bally Sports San Diego.

Prior to joining KARE, he worked as an anchor and reporter at WCBS-TV in New York (2000–2005). Pomeranz began his tenure anchoring CBS 2 News This Morning and CBS 2 News at Noon. He also anchored the weekend evening newscasts and weekday newscasts at noon and 6 p.m. Pomeranz’s station was on the air during the September 11, 2001, attacks, and it was the only terrestrial television station that did not go off the air as a result of the World Trade Center’s collapse.

In 1994, he started his television career as a reporter and anchor in Chicago, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pomeranz graduated from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. He has received numerous local and national awards for his work, including an RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award for his reporting. Pomeranz was a minor league baseball pitcher from 1988 to 1992, when a shoulder injury ended his career with a record of 9 wins and 18 losses and a 4.72 ERA in 88 games played.

Pomeranz announced his departure from KARE on February 27, 2012, to join Fox Sports San Diego (now Bally Sports San Diego). He co-hosts the Padres Live pre- and post-game show with former first baseman Mark Sweeney, and he occasionally fills in for the late Dick Enberg on game play-by-play. Despite sharing the same first name as Padres pitcher Drew Pomeranz’s father, who is also a former college baseball pitcher, he is not related to him.
